Protecting our Future: Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect
This past convention, a new philanthropy was voted upon by our chapters. National Delta Beta Sigma is elated and proud to support Prevent Child Abuse America who advocates for a cause that is dear to us all.
Prevent Child Abuse America was founded in 1972. Originally named the National Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse, the name changed to Prevent Child Abuse America in 1999. The organization’s mission is to “prevent the abuse and neglect of our nation’s children”. It is vital that each child receives a supportive environment along with nurturing relationships during their early child childhood stages where growth is vital. This organization works diligently to ensure each child is provided with these indispensable resources. By researching the best prevention strategies, engaging in public awareness and engagement, and advocating for comprehensive family supports, Prevent Child Abuse America works diligently to ensure each child is provided with a caring environment. Therefore, there are nearly 600 Healthy Families American home visiting sites which provide essential services to parents and children in communities across the country.
Our chapters are in full swing with their efforts to fundraise for this essential cause. You can support by educating yourself regarding signs and prevention, raising awareness, encouraging others to seek support when necessary, and most importantly by being a supportive friend. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the various prevention strategies listed on their website if you wish to take up on a reading challenge! Additionally, if you are interested in volunteering or giving back to Prevent Child Abuse America, please reach out, and we’d love to connect you to a nearby chapter!
