History and Values
Our Founding
Delta Beta Sigma was founded at Columbia Institute in Columbia, Tennesse, on October 1, 1903. Our seven founders were Anna Faulkner, Florrie Faulkner, Rose Dickinson, Stella Hanford, Marion Hanford, Eva Colmore, and Mabel Vaughn.
Sisterhood
The cornerstone of our sorority is sisterhood. Our sisters are loyal to one another, supporting and empowering one another to do great things in our communities. We also expect and enforce positive pledgeship by bringing our newest members into our sisterhood with utmost respect and kindness.
Philanthropy
Since 1935, Delta Beta Sigma has seen philanthropy as an essential component of the mission and vision of our organization. Each year, National Delta Beta Sigma selects a new philanthropy to support, and chapters also fundraise and volunteer for both national and local charities.
Scholarship
As young women in high school, our members are held to a high standard in their academics. To support our members in their schooling, National Delta Beta Sigma offers the Wanda Bedell Scholarship to graduating seniors going to college.
Leadership
Delta Beta Sigma empowers young women to be leaders in their communities. Our chapter structures provide opportunities for members to be officers and committee members, which helps develop leadership skills like planning, delegating, organizing, and communicating. The National Board of Regents takes a hands-on approach with educating and supporting these young leaders as they impact their communities.
